With over 80,000 members across the country in 2019, the Catholic Women’s League of Canada represents the largest organized body of Catholic women in the country. It is officially recognized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops as a lay association of women and is affiliated with the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations.

Among the objectives of CWL are to unite Catholic women of Canada to achieve individual and collective spiritual development; to exemplify the Christian ideal in family life; to enhance the role of women in their service to church and society; to uphold and defend Christian education and values in the modern world.

The spirit of volunteerism remains a hallmark of our CWL community, enriching the parish through its many contributions and the many roles taken on by our members. With dedication we serve as lectors, as choir members in the music ministry, as eucharistic ministers, and in the altar guild. We also help the underprivileged and promote the sanctity of human life. We have visited shut-ins at home, in hospitals, nursing homes and senior residences. The ladies of the CWL have for years met monthly at Assumption School to pray the Rosary with the children, resulting in many boys joining the altar service as well as encouraging the children to come to Sunday mass with their families. Thanks to the devotion of CWL members working together with other active parishioners, Assumption parish continues to be a thriving community.

The CWL at Assumption Parish welcomes new members. We meet at the parish hall of Assumption Parish to promote the values of the League and also for fellowship as we serve lunch.  Anyone interested, please contact Joan Lepage at 613-745-7935. Website for Ontario CWL can be found at https://cwl.on.ca/
